2023 WSOP Day 20: Fifth Bracelet for Glaser, First for Brewer

An exciting day at the 2023 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe Las Vegas and the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has brought us two gold bracelet winners. Benny Glaser got his fifth, while Chris Brewer celebrated his first and final broke the “unlucky” curse.

Chris Brewer Secures First Bracelet in Event #40: $250,000 Super High Roller ($5,293,556)

High-stakes poker professional Chris Brewer emerged as the victor in Event #40: $250,000 Super High Roller No Limit Hold’em. The event, which featured the highest buy-in of this year’s WSOP series, attracted a record 69 participants, up from 56 the previous year, and the increased participation led to a staggering prize pool of $17,181,000.

The final table was quite a roller coaster of poker action. Early departures included Steven Veneziano and Brandon Steven, while David Peters, a four-time bracelet winner, was the first to exit during the live stream.

The following short stack to go was Dan Smith, who did see three money ladders. Day 2 chip leader Chance Kornuth finished 5^th. Artur Martirosian knocked out two other players, Alex Kulev and Martin Kabrhel, who finished fourth and third, respectively, and everything was set for a big finale.

The climactic heads-up play saw Brewer initially at a significant chip disadvantage against Martirosian. However, the tide turned dramatically when Brewer’s pocket threes outlasted Martirosian’s ace-ten, catapulting Brewer into a commanding position. This shift set the stage for the final hand, where Brewer’s ace-seven bested Martirosian’s ace-king, thanks to a dramatic runner-runner straight after a king-high flop, which earned Brewer a massive $5,293,556 win and the coveted gold bracelet.

“I can’t believe I won it,” Brewer became emotional in his post-win interview. “I’m sorry, I’ve had some really tough ones. It just feels good.”

Event #40: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold’em Final Table Results

Fifth Bracelet for Mixed Game Specialist Benny Glaser in Event #38: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship ($311,428)

Event #38: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship featured a field of 130 entries and a total prize pool of $1,209,000. In the end, Benny Glaser, one of the best mixed games players in the world, has etched his name in poker history by becoming a member of an elite Five Bracelet Club, joining the likes of Josh Arieh, Brian Yoon, and John Monnette, who accomplished this feat at 2023 WSOP as well.

The Brit triumphed in a heads-up battle against Oscar Johansson that extended into an extra day and took home $311,428 for the win.

Benny Glaser’s Five WSOP Bracelet Wins

“I felt good coming into heads up today, I really love heads up, and I’ve played a lot of it, so I was pretty confident in my game there,” Glaser told PokerNews after his win.
