2023 WSOP Day 17: Robert Mizrachi Hunting for Fifth Bracelet

Thursday was a rare day at the 2023 World Series of Poker as there were no new winners crowned. This didn’t take away from the excitement at the Horseshoe Las Vegas and the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino as many events ran deep and we witnessed one lucky player pull a $250,000 secret bounty.

Many big names including Jerry Wong and Robert Mizrachi are among the chip leaders entering Friday in bracelet events.

Event #33: $10,000 Razz Championship Heads to Overtime

Event #33: $10,000 Razz Championship was scheduled as a three-day affair. The low-ball field of 123 entries for a $1,143,900 prize pool was unable to crown a winner during the wee hours of the morning on Friday and will resume action on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m with just three hopefuls competing for the title.

Jerry Wong leads the way in the hunt for his first taste of WSOP gold with 3,025,000 in chips. Wong had a couple of close calls for a bracelet each of the past two years with runner-up performances in both the 2021 WSOP Event #74: $2,500 Big Bet Mix for $72,868 and the 2022 WSOP Event #17: $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball for $101,514. On Friday, he will already have more than both these impressive performances locked up with the final three guaranteed at least a $133,177 payout with the possibility of a $298,682 top prize on the line if he can secure his first bracelet.

Two other players in Michael Moncek (2,760,000) and Carlos Chadha (1,590,000) are just as hungry for the title. Moncek already snagged his second career WSOP bracelet earlier a couple of weeks ago when he shipped Event #6: $5,000 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em / Pot-Limit Omaha for $534,499 and could become one of the players in the 2023 WSOP Player of the Year discussion as poker’s summer camp continues as he was in sixth place entering as of Friday. Chadha had the chip lead much of the final table and will need momentum to win his first bracelet and his biggest single live poker tournament prize.

Meanwhile, Elior Sion (fourth – $97,960), Talal Shakerchi (fifth – $73,495), John Hennigan (sixth – $56,265), Bryce Yockey (seventh – $43,970), and Yuval “YoViral” Bronshtein (eighth – $35,092) all advanced to the final table only to fall short of the podium and the final day of play.

Robert Mizrachi Leads Final 10 in Event #34: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha

The three-day Event #34: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha is scheduled to finish on time with the action down to just 10 hopefuls for its third and final day kicking off on Friday at 12 p.m. The event, which will broadcast its final day at PokerGO, attracted an impressive field of 1,355 entries to create a $1,808,925 prize pool.

The final 10 have each locked up $20,049 with all players eagerly hunting the bracelet and the $298,192 top prize.

Robert Mizrachi is looking to join the latest trend of multiple bracelet winners as the four-time WSOP champion leads the way with 5,680,000 which is good for 57 big blinds. A pair of Matthews are strong in the hunt for their first bracelets with Matthew Beinner (5,175,000) and Matthew Parry (4,170,000) coming into the final day as Mizrachi’s nearest competitors.

Sean Troha (3,935,000) and Antonin Teisseire (2,210,000) are also still in the mix and are each in a quest to add a second WSOP bracelet to their wrists.

Ali Shahni Collects $250K Bounty in Event #35: $10,000 Secret Bounty

An eager field of 568 entries came out in full for the three-day Event #35: $10,000 Secret Bounty to create a $5,282,400 top prize.

The action dwindled to eight hopefuls, each locking up $73,756 with the chance at the coveted bracelet and the $733,317 top prize when the action resumes at 4 p.m.

Ali Shahni was the star of the day despite hitting the rail in 12^th place for $36,332. Earlier, Shahni eliminated Edward Grinko in 17^th place for $24,504. Shahni then turned that elimination into a jackpot of $250,000 after pulling the biggest bounty envelope prize on tap in this event.

Meanwhile, Artur Martirosian and Tyler Cornell picked up $100,000 each in bounty prizes while Matthew Bremer and Sriharsha Doddapaneni each won $50,000 bounty prizes.

A slew of bracelet winners litter the top five of the pack with Chris Klodnicki (6,615,000) leading the way followed by Jeremy Ausmus (6,475,000). Aram Oganyan (5,410,000) resides in third place in the hunt for his first bracelet while bracelet winners Angel Guillen (4,150,000) and Barak Wisbrod (4,135,000) round out the top five.

Meanwhile, Eric Yanovsky (3,125,000), Daniel Rezaei (2,405,000), and Tracy Nguyen (1,860,000) are also still in the hunt for their first WSOP titles.

The three-day Event #36: $3,000 Nine Game Mixed is down to 22 players from its original field of 361 entries for a $968,870 prize pool. The action will resume at 2 p.m. on Friday with Phillip Long in the lead in his quest for his second WSOP title and the $221,124 top prize. Three other WSOP bracelet winners are just behind Long including Jean Gaspard, Justin Liberto, and Allan Le.

A total of 1,962 entries got into the battle in Event #37: $2,000 No-Limit Hold’em to create a huge $3,492,360 prize pool on its first of three days. The action is close to the money bubble with just 321 players remaining and 295 players going home with at least a $3,202 top prize. Saturday’s winner will go home with much more with a tasty $524,777 top prize on the line. Lee Piniatoglou, Mark Seif, and Joshua Reichard will start Friday’s action at 10 a.m. with the top three chip stacks with Mustapha Kanit, Juha Helppi, Dominik Nitsche, and Maria Ho also finding bags to the penultimate day in this event.

Late registration is still open in the three-day Event #38: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship. So far the event attracted 106 entries for a $985,800 prize pool with a few more players likely joining the action before cards are in the air at 2 p.m. on Friday. Michael Wagner, Adam Freidman, and Ryan Leng bagged the most of the 45 players to survive the opening day.

June 16, 2023 WSOP Schedule

Friday, June 16, 2023 promises to be another exciting day at the WSOP with the promises of three new bracelet winners to be crowned.

This is not all as two new big events on both ends of the buy-in spectrum kick off on Friday including a massive field expected for the start of the four-day Event #29: $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em. Many of the biggest names in poker will also be pitted against each other in the nosebleed Event #40: $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold’em.
