The Land Down Under Welcomes WPT at The Star Gold Coast

The World Poker Tour (WPT) is gearing up to make its return to Australia, promising poker enthusiasts an exhilarating experience at The Star Gold Coast. Running from September 14-27, 2023, the festival culminates in the WPT Australia Main Event, which spans from September 22-27.

This year’s Main Event has a buy-in of AUD $8,000, a significant increase from last year’s AUD $5,400, which attracted a commendable turnout of 710 entrants, amassing a prize pool of AUD $3,550,000 ($2,334,125). David Tang emerged victorious from that competitive field, claiming his first-ever WPT Main Tour title and walking away with the top prize of AUD $647,470.

The tour first set its sights on the country in 2019, marking the inauguration of WPT Australia. That year’s AUD $2,500 Main Event exceeded expectations, drawing 658 entries and Melbourne’s Hari Varma etching his name in WPT history.

Following that inaugural event, WPT Australia’s trajectory has only risen, with the hosting of two WPT Prime events in 2022 and 2023, along with the memorable Main Tour event of the previous year.

Beyond the Main Events, WPT Australia is renowned for its diverse portfolio of tournaments that cater to players of all calibers and bankrolls. This year’s lineup is no exception. Players can look forward to events such as the AUD $1,650 Mystery Bounty, the AUD $5,000 8 Max Action Clock, and the AUD $660 Ladies Australia Championship Event. High roller aficionados can set their sights on events like the AUD $10,000 World Championship Warm Up, among others.
