Hedge Fund Manager David Einhorn Lost $500K in First Hand

David Einhorn is a Greenlight Capital hedge fund manager who manages over $2.4 Billion. He is also known for his philanthropic work and likes to play poker.

His most significant live MTT score came in 2012, when he came third in the $1,000,000 The Big One for One Drop event and won $4,352,000. Einhorn has total live earnings of $5,281,731.

Einhorn was involved in an extremely painful tournament opening hand when there was an open to 7,000. Then Jared Bleznick 3-bet to 25,000 with AA. Einhorn went for a 4-bet to 77,000 AK, Bleznick 5-bet to 225,000, and Einhorn shoved for 1,000,000. As expected, he got snap-called and was in a bad spot with less than 7 percent of equity. The board ran K8287, and Einhorn was out of the Triton $500,000 High Roller Event.

On this hand, we see why Einhorn bought in as an amateur player; putting 333 big blinds into 6-bets against tight range is a clear mistake by AK.

Triton is having an MTT festival in Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas, that started on December 6th. Einhorn was involved in a tournament that combined one amateur and one pro player, who put up $500,000 each for a total of $1,000,000.

The festival runs until December 19th and offers 15 bracelet events with buy-ins from $25,000 to $100,000 for No Limit and PLO. The crown of the festival is the Super Main Event, with a buy-in of $25,000 and a GTD prize pool of $50,000. The GTD prize pool of the whole event is $68.5 million.
