Another amazing The Festival Series has closed its curtains. Portomaso Casino hosted the event on May 15-21, which ended yesterday with Oysten Brenden from Norway taking home the Main Event trophy and €60,700 first prize.
The Festival Malta €550 Main Event has attracted an impressive 617 entries, creating a €296,610 prize pool, making it the third largest main event in The Festival’s history. What makes that more impressive is that the tournament did not have a guarantee set! It was a fantastic series in Portomaso Casino Malta, with over 50 events played in just a week.
Brenden had a fantastic tournament, as he entered Day 2 in second place and was the chip leader to start the final day with just 16 players left. However, it could have been smoother sailing from then on as Brenden lost a chunk of his stack with two tables and was left very short-stacked. But composure and picking the right spots made him build his stack back up and take a slight lead coming into the heads-up play.
The critical moment in Heads-up play happened when Brenden won a massive pot with his pocked kings after Somodi missed his draw with with Q3 suited. Shortly after Somodi jammed the short stack he had left with 87 was dominated by K7 held by Brenden, and had to settle for a second-place finish. Regardless, it was a tremendous effort by Somodi, who collected the €40,500 runner-up prize for his efforts.
Oysten Brenden was then crowned the big winner of the tournament and took home €60,700 first price finish!
