The first mix game event of the series took place in the form of Event #8 $340 MLH/PLO. Stefan Maloney bested the 116 player field to take home the first place prize of $9,205. Maloney is no stranger to this event having finished second in back to back series previously. From the final table onward, it looked like Maloney’s tournament to win. He held a third of the chips with seven left and didn’t look back. He bested Garry Sandhu in heads up play to take the trophy.

Heading into the dinner break, Johnny Dalphond and Malcolm Bolger sat well ahead of the pack with 298,000 and 252,000. By the next break, George Mounsef and Garry Sandhu joined the ranks, with the four players all sitting over 200,000. With only two tables remaining, Sandhu and Thi Ngo had 350,000 and 300,000. Tyler Foran was the resident short stack with 14,000. Eliminations were rapid as the bubble burst leaving twelve remaining.
Tony Comely found a triple as his aces held in Omaha to chip up to 240,000. Short stacks seemed to double as chips were rapidly moving around the table. Maloney found a double elimination against Ngo and Alex Liu turning a flush to chip up. At 990,000 he sat double the next closest player. Comely would be the next to bust as he made a move against George Broumas. He couldn’t hit his gutshot straight draw and was sent to the rail. Leonard Siebenga was the next to fall as his aces were called off by Maloney. He found two pair by the river to bring play to five-handed.

Soon after, Broumas hit the rail and Mounsef was the next to follow. He flopped a set but Sandhu turned a straight and held for the win. Eric Taylor managed to find back-to-back doubles hitting a four-card straight after being dominated on the flop. However, his luck wouldn’t hold as he fell to Maloney who made the second nut straight by the river. Sandhu soon fell to Maloney as he moved all in after flopping top two pair. Maloney called with an open-ended straight draw and hit on the turn. The river was not helpful for Sandhu as he was rewarded with $6,345 for his run. Stay tuned as coverage of the PPT continues throughout the week.
