Donald Trump Puts Old School Poker Player as the Head of IRS

After the end of the elections and as the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump has been taking his time and assembling his cabinet and other government roles. One of his picks is Billy Long who Trump put as the head of IRS (Internal Revenue Service).

The interesting thing about Billy Long is that he is a poker player who regularly plays in local cash games and has $6,000 in live MTT earnings. Long also entered some WPT events after being removed from Congress due to Joe Biden’s win.

Maybe we can still see Long in this year’s WPT World Championship in Vegas, which started December 3 and runs until December 23. That would be a nice way to start his new role as Head of the IRS when Trump takes office on January 20, 2025.

“Billy brings 32 years of experience running his own businesses in Real Estate and, as one of the premier Auctioneers in the Country. He then served 12 years in Congress, because he ‘felt it was important for his constituents to have a Representative who has signed the front of a check!’ Trump posted about Long on his “Truth Social” app.

Long will operate as IRS commissioner and replace Danny Werfel, who was chosen by Joe Biden’s administration for that position. The main focus of the IRS commissioner is to control, plan, implement, and evaluate IRS policies, programs, and performance.

Long has been attacked by his political opponents for his love for the game of poker. In 2015, he hosted a poker night with a $1,000 buy-in for charity, and Democrats didn’t like it. One blogger posted “seems to spend as much time in Las Vegas as he does in Springfield (MO) or Washington D.C.”
