The big story from Saturday at the Spring Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino was the final flight to the opening multi-day event, the $340 Deepstack. As expected, Day 1c was the biggest of the bunch, capping 200 players before entries closed, for an event total of 465.

That means they’ll be playing for $132,525 in total prizes, with the winner set to pocket more than $27k and more than $87k on the final table. Full prize details can be found under the Payouts tab on the event’s live reporting page.
The final Day 1 saw local player Andy Truong bag the big stack for the day, but with just shy of 500k in his bag, that was only good enough for 3rd going into Day 2. Day 1a’s Scott Johnson will be second on the final day while the 1b leader, Dave Howat, bagged the big stack.
Howat has a decent history here in Alberta poker. He was third in the Big 30 Stack last May here at the Deerfoot WSOP-C, and he’s picked up a couple of other 3rd in Edmonton in the last couple of years. He was also 5th in this $340 Deepstack in the 2024 Fall Super Stack last November. He’ll be looking for his first win since 2019 in tomorrow’s Day 2.

The side event on Saturday night was the Fight or Flight, which was a Survivor-style tournament with Landmark Satellite additives. It got a pretty small turnout of 15 entries and officially had two paid spots.
When they got down to the final 3 shortly after late entry ended, the players agreed to an ICM deal based on the stacks at the time (the original payout structure had the top two getting identical payouts). Due to the event’s format, I didn’t get a winner’s photo.
