Dave Howat Eclipsed the Day 1A Leader

Scott Johnson set the pace in Event #3: $340 Deepstack NLH on Day 1A, but it was Dave Howat who jumped into the overall chip lead after a massive Day 1B performance. Howat bagged 739,500 chips, nearly 150,000 more than Johnson, to take the top spot heading into Day 2.
Day 1B drew 146 entries, and with 10% of the field advancing, 14 survivors moved on. Among the top stacks were Alicia Dodds (457,000), Marcio Kondo (326,000), and Mathiraj Sabanathan (320,000), each crossing the 300k mark. They’ll join the 10 players from Day 1A, with one final flight left to go. The prize pool already sits at $77,430 and is expected to surpass six figures with today’s Day 1C, which starts at 2 p.m. and is anticipated to be the largest of the three.

Three-Way Deal to Close the Night

While most eyes were on the Deepstack, a new champion was crowned in Event #5: $340 NLH Progressive Knockout. The event drew 75 entries, generating a $10,125 prize pool plus $11,250 in bounties.
Eight players made the money, with John Foley being the first to hit the rail. Linda Goodwin, Emmanuel Misonne, and Debi Loomer were the shortest stacks. However, Goodwin was the next to fall in seventh place, while both Misonne and Loomer managed to survive a little bit longer.
Kirk Nilson followed in sixth place before Misonne’s good run ended in just two hands. First, he lost a key pot with ace-eight to Shane Brotherwood’s ace-queen, and then the rest of his stack went to Jacqueline Ray one hand later.
After Debi Loomer bowed out in fourth place, the final three players agreed to an even-money chop, each taking home $2,329 plus their (collected) bounties. At the time of the deal, Mohsen Shafizadeh held the chip lead and was crowned as a winner, with Jacqueline Ray and Shane Brotherwood officially finishing second and third, respectively.
