It was the final day of action at the Spring Super Stack, and Deerfoot Inn & Casino was host to another dominating Main Event performance from Alex Liu. In addition to Liu’s run to his second local Main Event win in the last 8 months, the final game of the series was running out alongside.
While the big action on Sunday was on the Main Event tables, the final event of the series was the $280 Bounty that started and ended while the final day of the Main was playing out. It took about 8.5 hours for the side game to play out with the final action taking place shortly after 10 pm.

The side game on Sunday was the $280 Bounty game, but it played out in the shadow of Day 2 of the Main Event. The side action got going at 2 pm, and by the time entries closed at 5:30, they had 73 buy-ins in the kitty. That put the prizes at $13,688, with $3,650 more in the bounty pool.

Devin Zalusky was the winner after about eight and a half hours of play tonight, taking down a quick heads-up over Ryan Callahan. The runner-up finish for Callahan was his second cash of the series after making the final two tables of the Megastack event earlier in the series.

Another notable story from the cash list here was Kyle Dery. Dery picked up his 4th cash of the series with 5th place in the final game.

It’s becoming a bit of a habit for Alex Liu to crush Main Events here at Deerfoot Inn & Casino. He powered his way through the final table of Sunday’s Day 2 with a familiar mix of solid play, aggression, and run-good.
It was a similar story last August when he took down his first Circuit ring in the Main Event. When play was five-handed last August, he had about half the chips in play. Fast forward to April 2025 and the Spring Super Stack Main Event, with play five-handed, Liu once again was sitting behind half the chips in play.

It wasn’t an easy road the whole though. He confided after the win that his Day 1b was brutal, seeing cooler after cooler for multiple bullets. He managed to persevere and find a bag for Day 2, where he found the sweet spot between a solid understanding of the game and the cards running his way.
He certainly ran well on the final table. He got aces twice within a few hands and got solid value in a pot with 3rd place Roman Brar before sending James Cruickshank home with the rockets.
But Liu didn’t get to the big stack on run-good alone. He was hyper-aggressive with the big stack, raising a significant number of hands, but he was equally dialed in enough to know when to raise-fold, and when to ramp up the aggression. Pressure on shorter stacks won him a lot of pots as they all vied for a position below him.
Liu is far from the most flamboyant character at the table, preferring a calm, quiet approach to the game, though his dry wit is legendary when he does decide to pipe up. Most of the time, though, he sits quietly, watching the game and pushing his edge where he finds it.
Tonight, there’s no question he ran well. He also knew exactly when, and how, to apply the most pressure on other players and found spots to extract solid value.
In the case of this game, he eventually decided to chop heads-up with runner-up David Swaim, but don’t think that detracts from his win. On the contrary, Swaim was surging after sending Brar out in 3rd place and while Liu still had around a 2:1 lead, he understands the variance of poker, especially heads-up poker.
Swaim is also a solid player and a final deal to secure more than $78.5k and the win was beneficial to both players. Swaim was able to secure significantly more than the original payout, with $70k in his pocket.
