Stefan Maloney Wins NLH/PLO Mix for $9,205

Stefan Maloney, winner of NLH/PLO Mix

If there’s one game that Stefan Maloney looks forward to every series, it’s this one. He is a regular on the Omaha streets and he’s very well-versed in the four-card game and while he holds his own in the straight PLO events, he truly loves the mix of two-card and four-card poker to be found in this format.

This was his first win in the format (and third lifetime win overall), but he was 2nd in this event twice on last year’s PPT in Feb and Sept. This year he was able to go one better with the win.

He held the lead through most of the final table after sending the first two players out and building a stack of almost 1 million with seven left. That was about a third of the chips in play and he never really faltered from there. He sent Leonard Siebenga home in 6th despite misreading his hand when he rivered two pair, then sent Eric Taylor to the cage when he flopped top pair and rivered the straight against Taylor’s pocket deuces.

That set heads-up play against Garry Sandu where once again, he got there with a straight to take it all down. He had Sandhu covered nearly 3:1 and the money went in when Sandhu flopped two pair against the pair and open-ended draw for Maloney. Maloney turned the straight and Sandhu was unable to catch a boat on the river, giving Maloney all the chips.
