2024 Fall Super Stack – Event #1: $340 Deepstack NLH

Deerfoot Inn & Casino is bringing back its signature Fall Super Stack series, kicking off on Nov 7. The series offers a diverse lineup of tournaments, including multi-day events like the $340 Deepstack, $560 Megastack, and $1,500 Main Event Superstack, as well as unique highlights like a $1,100 Heads-Up match, PLO games, and a Mystery Bounty.

Check out live updates and reporting from the Fall Super Stack by Lyle Bateman. Chose an event of your choice down below:

  • Big Numbers Early for 1c

    Level:1 (100/100/100)
    Entries:62/62 (85/271)
    Prizes:$17,670 ($77,235)

There are about 10 minutes still to play in the opening level today and the field is already over 60 entries and climbing. There is still a small line at the entry desk with Ty Adams, who was 4th in the PKO last night, as one of the recent entries to the game.

  • Nearly 40 Entries to Start 1c

    Level:1 (100/100/100)
    Entries:38/38 (61/247)
    Prizes:$10,830 ($70,395)

The final flight to Day 2 of Event #1 is now boarding with the action in Level 1. 38 players ate in their seats for the start of play, but there’s a line at the entry desk as well, so those numbers will be nearing 50 shortly. That puts the combined prizes higher than $70k but it looks like a lock that the final prizes later tonight will cap $100k.

Among the players in the game today are Ross Wilson, Jason Boyes, Reg Hampton, Don Fujita, Ali Razzaq, Calen Simmons, Derek Letourneau, Jeff “Ironman” Charlebois (minus his Ironman mask this time), and Russ Sluchinski.

  • Final Flight to Day 2 Boarding Saturday

    Event:#1: $340 Deepstack ($300 + $40)
    Dates:Day 1a: Nov 7, 2 PM
    Day 1b: Nov 8. 2 PM
    Day 1c, Nov 9, 2 PM
    Day 2: Nov 10, Noon
    Blinds:30/40 Min
    Start Stack:20k
    Late Entry:10 Levels (~8:15 pm)
Day 1 Ends:16 Levels ~11:30 pm (or 10%+1 of Starting Field)

After two starting flights for the Deepstack game, the field is at 209 with $59,565 in prizes so far. The big leader after two days is Dale Posein with 445k. That’s nearly 200k more than second place Patricia Kananda. Todd Oakley, who won the PLO game on opening night, bagged stack #3 worth 271k while Mike Malm, leader from 1a, in fourth now. Scott Calvank rounds out the top five counts after two starting days.

Day 1c will replicate the previous starting flights, only bigger. I’m expecting around 150 for Saturday, but the final numbers remain to be seen.

Players sit down with 20k in chips to start their day, and entries will be accepted for the first 10 levels of play. With 30-minute blinds on Day 1 (Day 2 moves to 40 minutes), that should put the final chance to enter or rebuy at about 8:15 PM on Day 1.

They’ll play a maximum of 16 levels on Day 1 with the bags coming out after Level 16 or when the field hits 10%+1, whichever comes first. If they play until the end of 16, the bags will be out around 11:30 PM.

This game will be my main focus throughout the opening weekend of the series. I’ll keep an eye on the side events and move to them at the end of the days for this event, but most of my attention will be focused here at the start of the series.

    Level:22 (15000/25000/25000)
    Entries:9/370
    Prizes:$105,450
    Francis Krulicki

Dave Howat opened from the hijack to 50k and got calls from Francis Krulicki on the button and Bron Johnson in the big blind. Howat fired another 50k on the 645 flop after a check from Johnson. Krulicki called while Johnson mucked his hand.

The turn was 7 and Howat bet 100k, then snapped it off when Krulicki shoved. Howat flopped it with eight-seven for the straight, while Krulicki was dead with ace-queen.

  • Final Table Faces

    Level:21 (10000/20000/20000)
    Entries:10/370
    Prizes:$105,450

Here is a look at the final 10 players in Event #1.

  • Final Table

    Level:21 (10000/20000/20000)
    Entries:10/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are down to 10 left on the final table now after the exits of Kim Pham, Peter Noble, and Ty Adams. I’ll grab some pictures of the FT shortly.

  • Down to 13

    Level:21 (10000/20000/20000)
    Entries:13/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are down to 13 remaining after start-of-day leader Dale Posein hit the rail for 14th place shortly after the break ended. Meanwhile, on the other table, Jordan Banfield folded on a flop of J5A after table leader Paul Sokoloff raised pre to 55k and Banfield called. Banfield checked the flop and Sokoloff fired 200k into the middle, enough to cover Banfield’s remaining chips. He hit the tank for more than a minute.

“I have a jack,” he said at one point.

“I figured,” replied Sokoloff. “After all this time you must have something.” Banfield eventually elected to release his hand instead of going for it to preserve his stack of about 150k.

  • Chips from Break; Howat and Malm Over 1 Million

    Level:21 (10000/20000/20000)
    Entries:14/370
    Prizes:$105,450

Here is a look at eh stacks with 14 left. Dave Howat is leading with Mike Malm in second. They are the only players with more than a million in front of them.

  • Down to 14

    Level:20 (8000/16000/16000)
    Entries:14/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are down to 14 left on Day 2 now after the recent exits of Shane Chief and Caleb Simmons. Full prizes to date are listed under the Payouts tab. There are just under 30 minutes to play in Level 20 with a break scheduled at the end of this level. I’ll grab full chip counts at the break.

  • Howat Leading Final 16

    Level:20 (8000/16000/16000)
    Entries:16/370
    Prizes:$105,450

David van der Torre was the most recent exit from the game to bring the field to 16 remaining. Dave Howat looks to be the clear leader right now with more than 1.1 million, but Patricia Kanada and Mike Malm aren’t too far behind in the 800k range. Start-of-day leader Dale Posein is playing just shy of 600k right now.

  • Down to 17

    Level:19 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:17/370
    Prizes:$105,450

Dale Posein opened under the gun to 30k and it folded around to big blind Kory Stephenson. He tried to go all in but failed to announce it and ended up leaving about 50k behind. Posein reshoved the bigger stack to make sure it was all in, and Stephenson called it off.

Stephenson was dominated with A10 against AQ and the runout missed both players leaving the queen kicker to play for the win.

  • Krulicki Doubles to Stay Alive

    Level:19 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:18/370
    Prizes:$105,450

Ty Adams opened to 25k from the middle and it folded around to big blind Francis Krulicki. He shoved for 48k but got a snap-call from Adams.

Krulicki needed to hit to stay alive with J2 against A10 for Adams. Krlicki turned a deuce on a board of Q6429 and held to stay alive and double to a bit more than 100k.

  • Final Two Tables

    Level:19 (6000/12000/12000)
    Entries:18/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are down to the final two tables now with Level 19 just underway. Full prizes to date are published under the Payouts tab, but below is a look at the players that busted since my last update. Debi Loomer bubbled the final two tables, but consider she came into today with less than 100k, she spun it up the ladder pretty nicely.

    PlacePlayerPrize
    19 Debi Loomer$1,160
    20 Yan-Erick Coderre$1,107
    21 Jonathan Chimuk$1,107
  • 21 Players Left

    Level:18 (5000/10000/10000)
    Entries:21/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are down to 21 players left now in Day 2 with about 10 minutes to play in Level 18. Peter Svoboda, JJ Johnstone, Mal Hagan, and Patrick Wilson were the most recent busts. The full payouts are under the Payouts tab now, but see below for the payouts to date.

    PlacePlayerPrize
    22 Patrick Wilson$1,055
    23 Mal Hagan$1,055

    36 Derek Letourneau$844
    37 Ross Wilson$791
  • Down to 25

    Level:17 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:25/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are down to 25 now after the exits of Jeremy Drew (Graham), Karen Ray, Jo Teliani, Michael St. Pierre-Porter, and Ben Locker. It’s worth noting that Locker came into today with the nut-low stack, so he managed to spin that up pretty well.

  • 30 Left at Break

    Level:17 (4000/8000/8000)
    Entries:30/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are on the first break of the day, and when they return for Level 17, the official Day 2 blinds of 40 minutes will begin. It looks like Dave Howat is the leader right now with about 760k in front of him. Mike Malm is also playing a decent stack of about 450k while Caleb Simmons is on about 475k. Patricia Kananda is on about 440k whole Paul Sokoloff looks to be playing about 330k.

  • 31 Remain

    Level:16 (3000/6000/6000)
    Entries:31/370
    Prizes:$105,450

The first break of Day 2 is nearly upon us with the field down to 31. Kyle Dery, David Krause, LapChi Duong, and Scott Calvank are the players who have hit the rail since my last update.

  • Down to 35

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:35/370
    Prizes:$105,450

Once the bubble burst, there were a couple fo quick exits from Ross Wilson in 37th place ($791) and Derek Letourneau in 36th place ($844) to bring the field down to 35 remaining.

  • In the Money

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:37/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are now in the money after Seol Hee Kim couldn’t find the cards she needed to crack the aces of Jonathan Chimuk. That made her the bubble player today and the remaining players are all guaranteed at least $791 now.

  • Hand for Hand to the Money

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:38/370
    Prizes:$105,450

They are on the money bubble now with 38 players left. Todd Oakley and Adam Balog were the early exits from Day 2 so far and the clock is now paused with 14:09 remaining in Level 15. They’ll take two minutes off the clock now for every hand played until the next elimination puts them in the money.

  • Hagan Takes One

    Level:15 (2500/5000/5000)
    Entries:40/370
    Prizes:$105,450

In the final hand of Level 14, Debi Loomer opened the cutoff to 8k and got calls from Jordan Banfield on the button, Kory Stephenson in the small blind and Mal Hagan in the big. The flop came 379 and all players checked it through to the J turn. Stephenson checked the turn before Hagan fired out a bet of 10k.

Banfield was the only caller to the 2 river. Hagan checked and after about 30 seconds of thought, Banfield checked behind, showing Q10 but his queen high (with busted open-ender) was no good against the flopped pair for Hagan’s king-nine.

  • Day 2 is Nearly On

    Level:14 (2000/4000/4000)
    Entries:40/370
    Prizes:$105,450

The Day 2 players are now assembling and find their seats with 40 players coming back to fight for 37 paid spots. There are quite a few shorties out there today, so I expect they’ll be in the money pretty quickly.

  • Day 2 Seats

Note that Table 18 will be broken at the start of Day 2.
